A thousands of year old country, Indonesia is home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations. The country therefore is a hub of heritage, culture and arts. This rich and diverse heritage of Indonesia is reflected in its music, architecture, performing arts and everyday life.

Indonesia is home of some of the world’s oldest temples, dance forms and monuments. The Borobudur and Prambanan temple complexes in central Java are famous worldwide for their enchanting beauty and exquisite craftsmanship. The sunrise trail of Borobudur is one of the best experiences in the country, often followed by a trip to Prambanan and Sewu temples.

The Indonesian dance forms, from Ramayana Ballet to Wayang Topeng, often depict ancient Hindu epics in their local avatar, each with a single moral – the victory of good over evil. Shadow Puppets also follow a similar theme and depict folk tales of the islands with a strong sense of riotousness. While Prambanan and Borobudur are well known UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Ratu Boku is another gem of Yogyakarta, the heart of Javanese culture. To say that every corner of this country has at least one cultural gem will not be wrong.
